Making an Illustrated Journal - Part Two

illustrated journal

I'm slowly illustrating old journals from my twenties, using them as a springboard for artistic experimentation with no pressure. (See Part One for a longer explanation of this project.)

For this particular book illustrated with watercolor, gouache, and ink, I focused on creating messy art that challenged my tidy tendencies. I aimed for “playful” instead of "good" and let paint drip and seep onto other pages. I wanted to see how I'd handle more chaos and how it'd change me.

What I learned: more expressiveness, less fear, and a few stylistic breakthroughs. Here's the full book in all its messy glory.
